Virtway’s fun but very Serious Games

I mentioned that games development is one of the main focuses we have at Virtway.  Last time I wrote about Meatball Marathon, our new iPhone game.  We like games not only for fun, but for learning as well!  Since in serious gaming Virtway already has lots of achievement, and numerious projects and ideas to talk about, I have decided to make a separate blog about it which you can acess by following this link.

Now, to help you understand what serious gaming is about, let us get clear with the difinition of it.  As Wikipedia has it, “A serious game is a game designed for a primary purpose other than pure entertainment. The “serious” adjective is generally prepended to refer to products used by industries like defense, education, scientific exploration, health care, emergency management, city planning, engineering, religion, and politics.”  This is exactly what we do at Virtway, our products – both Virtway World for creation of virtual worlds and serious games – are a perfect fit to be used in training by the above mentioned industries.  Then Wikipedia continues with the definition “Serious games are designed for the purpose of solving a problem. Although serious games can be entertaining, their main purpose is to train, investigate, or advertise. Sometimes a game will deliberately sacrifice fun and entertainment in order to make a serious point.

OK, the last sentence is the part that is not true about Virtway´s product.  We stand against sacrificing fun!  There is always a way to make game learning interesting and engaging, challenging and educative at the same time.  And our products still make a very serious point!

Meet Snacky G from Meatball Marathon

We´re not only about serious business, at Virtway we do try to find ways to combine fun and business, work and play.  Another prevailing direction we have is also development of games, both serious and not so much.

Just last month Virtway released its third iPhone game, Meatball Marathon.  It´s a nice cartoony style game with an exciting running, jumping and swinging.  Our designer had quite a bit of fun developing an image of a main character – Snacky G.  He may only look like a simple guy, but there´s a whole story behind his mission of saving the world from junk food!  To find out – check out the game on the AppStore and game´s website.  Fun gameplay and easy to use controls in a fast paced excitement make the game enjoyable by a diverse user audience. One of the most exciting features is users´ ability to customize game levels or create and submit their own with online editor. Finally, playing games can also bring money: if a level gets bought by others Virtway shares revenue with a developer!

iPad 2 release opens new marketing opportunities

Apple keeps surprising with new and impressive technology (which helps us keep surprising you in return); this time the world is presented with iPad 2.   Again, Apple found a lot of things to change, update and improve.  This is particularly good news for us – as a developer we appreciate working with the new features of the device and enjoy its speed and functionality.  It is even better news for our customers as they have just been given another powerful tool to promote their company (if combined with Virtway World technology).

We are excited with a new device because, first of all, of its new memory and processor.  iPad generation 2 is equipped with a doubled RAM that runs two times better and an improved processor which is over twice as fast as the previous device.  With these new updates a user can handle and enjoy more complex applications, run more things in the background and a get a faster response overall.

Our technology to create virtual worlds – Virtway World – is multiplatform which means it’s available on PC, Mac, iOS and (soon) Android.  It’s not the only distinctive feature of the technology; the second strongest characteristic is the quality of graphics VW provides.  That is why we’re excited to see graphics capability in a new iPad 2!  It nine times outperforms its predecessor, frame rates are just incredible.  In case of Virtway World projects all of these new updates will help our clients and their users have even more enjoyable process of using the virtual world.  Just imagine how cool and prestigious would a company’s own Virtway World application look on a new smart and sexy iPad 2.

With iPad 2 our customers are also given new marketing opportunities in using their virtual representations.  iPad was a big success and now has even more potential, with a new device the user audience is definite to grow in times and will help us reach out to even more people.  Thanks to Apple and their innovation, Virtway has enabled an access to cost-free business opportunities for its customers.

Hello world!

We — Virtway — are an independent division of the Índigo group, born to respond to the growing need for virtual simulation.  Based in the beautiful city of Oviedo, Spain, company is a leader in IT and creative capacities with 3D simulation, web and mobile solution projects developed.

We plan to blog regularly, mainly about what we do and how we do it, and will also try to provide useful and interesting pieces of information about relevant industries and products, or just anything we might consider fun to share!

A main author will be Natasha Moskalenko (myself), I am engaged in sales and marketing for the company. The exciting part is that we can communicate with you in 3 languages: Spanish, English and Russian.  However, from time to time you´ll find posts from other team members, like our technical experts, and with them I can´t guarantee fluency as programmers sometimes communicate in a language known only to some specific circles.

Having a decade of experience and dozens of projects completed, our multi-disciplinary team is constantly overwhelmed with new ideas and developments that we are looking forward to sharing with you!  We encourage you to leave us your opinion and feedback!

Thanks for reading, and talk to you in the next post!
